Three Infrastructural Contracts Were Signed Today in the System of Transport

Today, 6 August 2007, the Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev and Minister of Transport Mutafchiev visited Sadovo station where they made a check-up of the construction works progress of the Plovdiv-Svilengrad-Turkish/Greek Borders Railway Electrification and Upgrading for 160 km/h speed.

The project is part of international transport corridors IV and IX that are included in the construction of an integrated transport system in Europe. The project is included in the TINA (Transport Infrastructure Needs Assessment) report in which the projects have been prioritiesed and classified in accordance with their importance for the completion of the construction of TEN (Trans-European Network). Within the National Railway Network the line is part of highway and railway line No.1 Kalotina-Dragoman-Sofia-Plovdiv-Svilengrad - Turkish/Greek Borders and is among the priority projects of national importance of the Ministry of Transport's Investment Programme.

The project comrises the reconstruction and partial doubling of approximately 151 km railway track, construction of catenary system, traction substations, signalling system, telecommunications and radio control, structures which will allow the future doubling of the whole line.
