Phase I: Krumovo – Parvomai

Works Contract Scope:

Phase 1 Krumovo – Parvomai encompasses the design and construction of 37 km of railway track out of which 17 km between Katunitsa and Popovitsa stations is envisaged to be doubled.

The project is developed in three main areas:

• Full reconstruction of the railway track, sub-grade and infrastructure for maximum train speed of  160 km/h for conventional rolling stock and 200 km/h for tilting trains
• Electrification of the whole line
• Installation of a temporary signaling and telecommunication system for the period of construction

The following is envisaged with respect to the three areas:

1. Civil works

• The volume of earthworks to be performed is approximately 2 million m3
• Three new railway bridges will be constructed
• All road crossings will be constructed in two levels and for that purpose 9 road overpasses and 1 road underpass will be built
• 13 livestock underpasses and 8 pedestrian underpasses will be built
• 67 small bridges – culverts – will be built
• The station buildings will be entirely rehabilitated – both externally and internally
• Two new halts will be constructed in Kochovo and Vinitsa
• Power supply substations will be built in Krumovo and Parvomai. In Parvomai a duty point will also be built.

2. Track works:

• Dismantling of the existing 50 km long railway track and 39 turnouts
• Delivery and laying of 59 km of new railway track and 28 new turnouts
• Re-laying of recycled 6,5 km long railway track and 27 recycled turnouts
• Benchmarking of the whole line

3. Electrical works

• Power supply of 25КV – 50 Hz
• Catenary for 200 km/h speed. The chosen system is an entirely new technical solution based on the   practice in the member states and on the European standards

4. Signalling and Telecommunication Systems

• Installation and adaptation of the existing signalling and telecommunication equipment and ensuring   the safety of the traffic during the construction period, as well as the putting in operation of a  new computer and telecommunication system the design and installation of which is within the scope of the Systems Contract.
